R. D. White Elementary School Reviews

RD White has an excellent staff. The school is a bright light in our community.

My daugther was in Catholic School in Kinder and she was struggling to read. I transferred her to RD White and now she is a good reader. Their school program to help kids succeed is amazing! The principal and the teachers are all great, especially Mrs. Melanie Doody . She treated her students as if they are all her own. I'm grateful that I have enrolled my child in RD White!

I have been a parent of three children at this school over the past 8 years. The principal and staff are amazing, their theatre program and monthly flag ceremonies are additional wonderful learning experiences for the students.

Our daughter started Kindergarten at R D White last year and she loves her teacher... she's learning a lot and the principal knows her name... they're are a lot of kids there, but I feel they try hard to create a good atmosphere for the students.

The first time we visited R.D. White, we were amazed at how much the staff were like family. The halls were filled with smiles and people happy to be there. Mrs. Risse, the principal, gave us a tour, and children went out of the way to say hello to her and give her big hugs. I then discovered the amazing programs the school had to offer, and how these programs address the individual needs of each student. The have also found a way to add and art teacher, and after and before school French, Spanish, and Ballet classes. A supportive, loving, enriching environment. Amazing teachers, most who have been there many many years. Although we had considered private schools, we are so happy we are at R.D. White.

The best school with the best teachers, best principal and best kids (especially my girls Emma and Nonie)

After our first year I am pleased with how well the Principal is involved in all of the student activities and reaches out to parents....I like there push for READING everyday and I like how they take a team apporach to discipline (parent, teacher, principal)...the front desk folks aren't as thorough and seem cluesless w/o the principal or assistant principal's direct guidance but I guess if there had to be a weakness as a parent I'll take it in that area! Looking forward to this new school year and making my best efforts at being as involved as possible...Here we go!!!

My girls have been going to school since kindergarten and I love it and my girls love it . My girls are now going into first and third grade and I would not want them in any other school

I would give it more stars if I could. RD White is an excellent school. Ms. Rissi is phenominal. She knows all of the students by name and encourages students with possitive rewards. The GATE program can't be beat. There aren't enough words to say how fantastic this school is.

Phenominal School! We are very proud to send our children to R.D. White!

R.D. White is a terrific school. Mrs. Risse, our principal does know every student by name. She has three children of her own and I have seen her at every school event I have attended! Sometimes with her children. The teachers are so wonderful and careing. I have been in communication with each teacher my child has had either by email, or a note sent to school or by volunteering in the classroom. It has made all the difference in my childs education. I have also noticed that many teachers are very qualified. Many have or are in the process of higher education. This coming school year will be the begining of a tradional calendar, I didn't care for the year round calendar. It never felt like a vacation from homework. I don't know why anyone would go private when we have R.D. White!

I have gone to R. D. White for 7 years, and have no complaints with the excellent teachers, staff, and parent volunteers, after all, the principal knows each and every student's name. I love R. D. White, and never want to leave it!

I love R. D. White. It is so culturally diverse, and the teachers and staff really care about the students. I am amazed, the principal knows every child's name. I am happy that my children feel safe, and know that my children look forward to coming to this great school every single day. My daughter is going to wilson next year, and i know that she will miss this excellent school. We love R. D. White

Wonderful teachers, campus, opportunities - I have been very pleasantly surprised and my daughter's experience is exceeding my expectations! I encourage skeptics to take another look and consider this wonderful school!

RDW provides an amazing education at many levels. The student population is very diverse economically and culturally. The teaching and support staff are dedicated and enthusiastic, led by a phenomenal principal. While many parents are not involved due to work or language limitations, any parent wanting to be involved can participate, by classroom volunteering, the art docent program, PTA events, or the Foundation. There's an optional instrumental music program, and choral programs. Students can help in classrooms or the office during their holidays. The year-round schedule spreads the year more evenly, and allows for 'low-season' vacations. On-site afternoon/off-track child care is available and reasonable. The building itself is one of the most beautiful in Glendale (1930's-era, updated in 2003.) My child has been here kindergarten through sixth grade (currently), and has had an excellent, well-rounded elementary experience.

Our Principal, is the finest person I have ever met. She deeply cares for all of our students, she knows the names of each and every child. The education and emotional health of our children is utmost on her mind. Our school, has a very diverse population and Ms. Risse and staff, have given us all the opportunity for success. What a great school !!!!!

I used to be a parent helper at RD White, and agree that Suzanne Risse is an excellent principal, better than most. She really sets the tone for the school, despite the lack of parent involvement, she keeps the teachers there.

I think this school is great. My son goes to school there and so far I've had no problems he loves it there and is learning a lot the teachers are so nice and I love it. There school is clean and the employees there are really helpful.

Although RD White ranks only a 7/10, part of the reason is the incredible diversity of the student body--nearly 70% of the children speak a language other than English at home. For my two gifted children (one of whom has ADHD), I have found that both the teachers and the principal are an amazing support team. They work hand in hand with me to provide my children with tools, resources and (if needed) accommodation to excel in their academic and personal development! Additionally, there is low turnover of teachers, which makes for a stable learning environment and also allows us (both students and parents) to develop relationships and a sense of community at the school! Thanks for the hard work that all the staff and teachers do to make it such a great place to be a student and a parent! We love RD White!

My child attended r.D. White from kindergarten to part of third grade. The experience has been great. The teachers and school leadership is top notch.

I believe that R.D. White has a lot commited and experienced teachers, who get the kids involved in community work, learning, friendship and respect. Our principal is inspiring teachers, students and parents to do their best. Whenever you need our principal she always has an 'ear' for you! The remodelling is taking place since summer 2003 and thanks to everybody who is involved in it everything is getting smoothly nicer. Thank you R.D.White.

R.D. White is a very good school. The Principal is doing a good job of leading the school and she is very dedicated. My children's teachers have been very good or excellent. The school was a California Distinguished School in 2002. The school was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School in 2003. As of 2003, the school is being refurbished and will be a very pleasant place for children once the work is complete. The school would be stronger if more parents would become active. Overall, I'd say the school is a very good school. It has the potential to be a great school. Efforts are being made to make the school great.
